The first successful attempt to commemorate Emancipation day in Miami was held on Saturday, August 5th, 2018. A libation was performed by Pastor Sherma Edwards of the St. Catherine Spiritual Baptist Church. Trinidad and Tobago Emancipation Group of Florida is a newly formed group led by Alicia Gibbs (President), Carl Blackman (Vice President), and Lynette Browne (Secretary). This commemoration of Emancipation day will be held every year in South Florida on the 1st Saturday in August.
