She has written a remarkable book entitled “Carnival Woman,” and it is now in circulation. She was inspired to write this book after completing her thesis (Masters in English—Creative Writing) at The City College (CUNY). The book is now being used for Anthropology and can be adapted for other disciplines (English, Criminology, History, Psychology). It fits into the category of Historical Fiction and is in the Language and Literature Department at the Brooklyn Public Library, New York (Grand Army Plaza). It clearly records the history of carnival (mas, the steel orchestra, and calypso) from the inception through the eyes of Carnival Woman who is an information center in this fascinating love story. Pat Nurse is a self-published author who has a collection of over one hundred poems and three books in the making. Her next book will be a children’s book. She plans to co-write this book with another author who is versed in Early Childhood Education. Pat Nurse is also the Managing Director of Carican Costumes (a non-profit organization) in New York. She designs and produces costumes for parades, cruise ships, parties and more... She produces a children’s costume band in New York every year for Labor Day. The theme for the children’s band is carefully chosen with an educational touch to inspire the children in positive ways. Pat has a collection of one hundred Barbie dolls in a wide variety of costumes. She designs these costumes on dolls to give clients a chance to see the final product. Sometimes she combines her readings with a display of her costumes and creates an exciting carnival atmosphere.
Finally, she volunteers her time to other organizations and she loves to go jogging and roller-blading.
